Allie's First Birthday Shebang: UPDATES

As I've mentioned in a previous post, the venue and the host/magician/ventriloquist/balloon-twister are already booked. We're still deciding which caterer to commission for the event, choosing between Queensland and Center Table Catering, the latter one having been recommended to us by our favorite cake chef, Alex Franco. I've done the preliminary math, and so far, Queensland is a contender for the caterer.

Speaking of Alex Franco, we met up with him last, last week to discuss Allie's Sesame Street-themed five-layered all-edible cake. Since Alex doesn't really customize his cakes according to a specific cartoon character (he's not into gumpaste stuff, which allows for more customizations), we've decided to have it tailor-fit according to the Sesame Street muppet colors instead.

Ribbon samples I gave to Alex for color reference.

The blue is for Cookie Monster, the red is for Elmo, the yellow is for Big Bird, the orange is for Ernie (sorry, we can't have another yellow for Bert), and the green is for Oscar the Grouch. :)

I've designed each layer of the cake with different textures: stripes, checks, diamonds, polka dots. When I presented Alex with my colored haphazard sketch, he approved and said it was very much "doable", so I'm really excited to see how the cake would turn out.

I've also finally decided on which supplier to book for Allie's invites, giving up on finding a reliable one that makes quality pop-up invites (board, not photo, paper, and laser printing). Most of the suppliers who have sent their samples are quite disappointing; the finished products looked like children's projects from school. So I thought about ways of jazzing up plain, colored invites - I'll post more updates on that later.

So, how do you like my idea for Allie's cake? :)

I looooove the birthday party theme, because Cookie Monster is one of my favorite characters. :D Nomnomnomnom. That's why my traveling doll is also Cookie Monster. Hee. Okay, the doll was supposed to be for my goddaughter, but I ended up keeping it, which turned out to be the right decision because apparently, she's afraid of Cookie Monster. Poor girl.

Very excited to read more updates about Allie's first birthday! :)

Haha, then I guess Cookie Monster the Traveler was meant to be with you, then. ;)

For sure I'll post lots about her birthday here. Thanks much for the visit and the comment! :)
